The displacement crack gauge monitors displacements in 3 directions. It monitors displacement and horizontal movement where there is a step across a crack due to displacement or out of plane movement.
This crack gauge is composed of 2 pieces of acrylic and PVC sheet that overlap. One has an opaque marker and the other has an overlay marker on clear acrylic. Each half is attached to the structure on opposite sides of the crack. When the crack moves, the sides displace in relation to one another. Movement is then monitored by observing where the sight marks cross the displacement grid. Crack gages can be installed with screws or epoxy.
