Low Sulfur Analyzer for Diesel FuelsAs a result of a new standard for sulfur content in diesel fuel proposed by the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), diesel fuel sold for road vehicles must be of the ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel) variety by December 1, 2010. In California, this requirement has been in effect since September of 2006. ULSD is defined as diesel fuel that contains less than 15 ppm sulfur (S). The reason behind lowering sulfur in fuel standards is that it reduces emissions of sulfur compounds and nitrogen oxides, known pollutants. Similar standards have been set in Europe.
